About the Program

As important members of the health care team, clinical laboratory scientists play a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. Clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists perform diagnostic tests on blood and other body fluids. These health care professionals perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests.

According to the Bureau of Labor statistics, employment of clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists is expected to grow 14 percent between 2006 and 2016, faster than the average for all occupations. The volume of laboratory tests continues to increase with both population growth and the development of new types of tests.
