How has your military experience proven beneficial in your career at Walmart?
I can say absolutely. My Marine Corps career prepared me for the challenge Walmart threw at me: lead 4500 associates in twelve stores covering Northeastern North Carolina. My military experience is directly related to my everyday job – LEAD, overcome obstacles to achieve an objective and make a difference everyday.
What advice do you have for transitioning military personnel?
Start planning your transition early and take your time. Interview outside your comfort zone and seek advice from your peers and leaders. Seek out something that excites you and lets you dream. Don't forget to work through your Service Related Veteran's Administration Claim and take the time to go through the process. Study, prepare and practice for your interview. Don't forget to smile!
Why would you recommend Walmart to transitioning military personnel and veterans?
Walmart is my new family. I have heard for years from vets that they missed the camaraderie of their unit and how things were when they were on active duty. Walmart has that same Espirit de Corps and common vision we had in the service; come experience it for yourself. If you want a challenge and the opportunity to lead, you willingly accept responsibility and you have a sincere desire to achieve success, Walmart is for you.
