Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have a long and proud history of supporting our nation's military men and women, their families and veterans within our communities. Read on to discover how through our most recent grants, we are working to address some of the specific needs of our veterans as they transition back to civilian life.
Veteran's Education
The Walmart Foundation supports various programs to help our nation's
veterans pursue their educational goals. The American Council on Education
(ACE) received a $2.5 million grant, to fund successful veterans'
education programs across the country. The Foundation also awarded
$1 million, provided in grants of $100,000 each to 10 colleges and
universities, to build on programs and resources that help veterans
throughout their college careers as well as a grant of $100,000 to
help further the work of Student Veterans of America (SVA), an organization
that supports student veteran advocates on campuses.
Military Transition and Family Support
Walmart knows that our veterans and their families face significant
challenges as they adjust to life back home. By partnering with a
variety of organizations, such as The National Center for Homelessness
and Veteran's Green Jobs, the Foundation is supporting programs that
provide resources to help improve veteran's emotional health, provide
family support services and resources, and promote the training of
veterans in new green industries.
Additionally, Walmart has embarked on several companywide initiatives – from our Army Spouse Employment Partnership to our initiative of providing Military Reserves' personnel with career opportunities.
Injured Veterans Support
Walmart believes that we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our
men and women in uniform, especially those who have been wounded in
the line of duty. Through our support of ACE's, Severely Injured Veterans;
Fulfilling Their Dreams Program, the Walmart Foundation has worked
to expand areas of support to our injured veterans and their families'
education and career opportunities. In addition, Walmart and the Foundation's
continued relationships with Fisher House and Operation Homefront,
have allowed us to provide everything from gift cards and merchandise,
to support of transitional housing facilities for our wounded warriors
and their families.
