Our Approach to Research

At Edward Jones, we are committed to a long-term investment philosophy that emphasizes quality and diversification. We do business this way because years of experience have convinced us that it’s one of the best ways to help you achieve your goals. Our Research department uses this philosophy as a guideline when recommending individual stocks.

How We Select Stocks
With tens of thousands of companies to cover, how does Edward Jones determine which stocks to follow and recommend to individual investors? As a general rule, we follow what are considered "blue chip" companies. Before we issue an opinion on a stock – Buy, Hold or Sell – we could research the company for months or even years. We aren’t swayed by fads or short-term results. We recommend stocks that we believe will perform well over the long term. We like to see an established track record and healthy business fundamentals.

You’ll Have Access to Our Headquarters Research Teams
Researching stocks and market trends is complex and not an exact science. We take this work seriously because we know our recommendations can have a direct impact on helping you help clients. We’re certainly aware of short-term events, including the latest headlines, but we don’t let them distract us from our job – recommending stocks that we believe will perform well over the long term.

In addition to our many research analysts, we have market strategists who analyze market trends. We don’t just rehash the latest news. Investors can get that information from the newspaper, Web or TV. We evaluate news and economic findings from a long-term perspective and then tell you how they may impact the investment strategies you recommend for clients.
